| Have you ever stopped to wonder, “How much greater could our world be if every citizen gave just one day of the month back to their community?” The 12 Day Project, a new community based not-for-profit organization, asks just that. The 12 Day Project helps structure and promote a wide range of community and non-profit based volunteer projects that take place on one weekend of every month. Volunteers donate a minimum of 6 hours of their time and skill set and in return they receive a 30 day benefit card that will provide them with discounts at 100’s of local stores, performance venues and art galleries in the Western North Carolina area. This is done in an effort to help stimulate and promote the local economy, develop public awareness and cultivate a stronger sense of community. Volunteers will be able to search hundreds of non-profit and community based projects by county, skill set and/or area of interest. There are also barter and free-cycle programs associated with the site. The 12 Day Benefit Card: Cards that will be sent to each volunteer project. These cards will enable volunteers to get discounts at certain local venues such as art galleries, hardware stores, clothing and shoe stores as well as area productions of theatre, dance, music, cinema and many more. Organizations will hand out these cards to all their volunteers who have given at least 6 hours over the course of the weekend. The duration of and type of discount will be determined by each individual business/artist/venue and posted on our website along with the artist/venue's general information, a web link, a map link, a logo and contact information. Additionally, all of the events will be listed on our Arts and Entertainment calendar that will be continuously updated along with volunteer opportunity listings.
